Dixie Chicks sweep Grammy Awards »

From the article: "The Dixie Chicks completed a defiant comeback on Sunday night, winning five Grammy awards after being shunned by the country music establishment over the group’s anti-Bush comments leading up to the Iraq invasion. The Texas trio won record and song of the year for the no-regrets anthem 'Not Ready to Make Nice.' They also won best country album, which was especially ironic considering that the group says they don’t consider themselves country artists anymore."

Yet more evidence that they are being "shunned and censored" by the industry after their comments.
Pathetic.

The public has spoken. With all these awards, this album sounds like it is better than Michael Jackson's Thriller Album. I still havent heard any of the songs yet. But, I am planning to run to my nearest record store to purchase it.

Please explain in what way is "Not Ready To Make Nice Nice" a powerful song? It is just more whinning by the Natalie about how rough she has had it. She doesn't want to accept the consequences of her actions. She needs to get over it and accept that a lot of her fans didn't like her words or her attitude. They still don't. I think it is very far fetched of you to say it is Right Wing conspiracy. Your above statement actually made me laugh out loud. What is amazing is the fact that you probably believe what you write. I am going to have to guess that you are under 21 or have not experienced much life.

Que, The Chicks songs are not played on country music stations. "The public" that actually listens to country music.
Their concerts have been canceled in some 30 so-called "RED States". "The public" that actually goes to country music concerts.
Their CD has sold well 9th or 10th ranked yet I like you don't know anyone who has bought it or heard it. Rumor has it that "The public" that has bankrolled Air America radio is the primary buyer of their CD's. And even Air America radio won't play their music.
Yes Virginia "The public" has spoken, and now we all know what the Grammy actually means. I'm not impressed are you?

The public? WHAT? You mean the grammy board right? The all liberal, Bush hating, grammy voters right??? The public made this the 9th best selling country album this year! That means there were at least eight other groups more deserving! This all all about politics!
Didnt the Dixie Chicks THEMSELVES ask not to be put in the country category anymore just last year? Humm, guess its all good if it benifits them though as they were CLEARLY handed this award by the hollywood left.

Let me sort this out if you have no talent you must be a liberal. Is that what your saying Secondchance otherwise your comment makes no sense! your logic is flawed!

The public has NOT spoken... only their liberal-minded peers in the ultra-liberal music industry. This was so predictable... all it was was an anti-Bush vote, not for the Album of the Year, which should have been either "Continuum" or "Stadium Arcadium" - both of which were masterpieces. "The Long Way Home" was just middle of the road (MOR) vintage Dixie Chicks and not even as good as "Fly" however, in order to make a statement, their peers voted them in on every nomination... puhleez. John Mayer was screwed last night, but at least RHCP won for Best Rock Album. Too bad the Grammies are not completely political and becoming incresingly irrelevant as a result.

Freedom of speech does not mean you can say what you like and not get criticized for it. They have every right to bash Bush. But, when others criticize them they shout censorship. To them, it freedom of speech means only the freedom to agree with them.

You said that right! Freedum of speach also gives people that don't agree with your speach the freedum of speach. Thats why I like these blog sites. I tryed the huffington post site before, and they don't let your comment through if they don't agree with you. there is not freedum of speech on that site.

That's a very true and very overlooked fact. Only a government can apply censorship, not a private institution or citizen. Individuals have the right to voice opposition to a statement and companies have the right to associate with or hire whomever they choose. You have a right to speak, but nobody owes you a platform to speak on.

The fact that this story is the #1 story on the front page is all the evidence anyone needs that LIBSCAPE has fallen off the left wing deep end.

I just couldn't let this side. "Integrity pays in the end?" Oh Please! This awards show has been marketed very nicely. The Dixie Chicks are also marketed the only way they can be. These "awards" are the culmination of an intense marketing effort to "Re-SELL" The Chicks to America. Nothing more, nothing less.
Natalie Maines makes a STUPID, immature comment. Her public responds by not buying her product. (OUCH!) The left claims she was unfairly treated. Maines mishandles her "apology." Finally, someone offers to bankroll The Chicks and to re-do her image. If she can keep her mouth shut, it may work.

Blue Cheer had a hit in the late sixties. Those really long haired loud rockers openly supported the Vietnam war. They never amounted to anything, even with their top ten hit.
There was a time supporting the goverment was not a good idea in music.

does anyone really care, this is nothing more than a hollywierd love fest. Hey I got an idea, lets spend lots of money to give ourselves awards, what a great way to make ourselves feel more importand. Van you imagine how many homeless people they could have feed with just the money spent on clothes last night.

mesodude1 year, 6 months ago
Well, rest assured that the amount of money they spent on clothes is infinitesimal compared to the amount of money wasted in Iraq and given to Big Oil in the form of tax breaks. If you're so worried about "hollywierd" I can only imagine how many sleepless nights you have worrying about spending extravagances of real significance. Or not...

Excellent and undeniable point. And now if their not too hangover they might realize just what pathetic hypocrites they all are.
Truth out.

Just about every industry has awards they grant to those within their field who achieve greatness. Jeez I can't believe I'm saying this about the Dixie Chicks. I make beer. We have the Great American Beer Festival or the World Beer Cup. What's the difference?

It's ironic that three women have taken the coveted 'bad boy" mantle in country music. In a genre that has become a haven for male artists who can't really rock yet desperately pretend to, the Dixie Chicks should be welcomed with open arms.
To all the Nashville wankers.... dated rock star poses, leather pants and crumpled straw hats will never cut it guys.
(Unless of course you're stuck with minivan moms as an audience.)

Well, if you lived in Nashville you'd know that's true of the 3 or 4 teams of guys who play on the records. They're absolutley brilliant. Very few country bands or artists get to play on their own records. Brad Paisley and Keith Urban are exceptions.
At least the Dixie Chicks play on their own sessions.

I don't listen to too much of today's country music. I'll take Doc Watson anyday.
Although Alison Krauss is quite good.

You missed the point that they are no longer part of country music genre nor accepted by their previous fans. Rock does not equal country or the other way around. Musical influences are widely varied, but to say country is a watered down version of rock is not correct. The Chicks have to find someone to sell their albums too and this works as well as any advertising campaign.

The "golden boys" of country music are all hiding behind Bush!
Dixie Chicks are showing who's got the muscle and the real "stuff"!
You go, Dixie Chicks!

ahhhhhh the fans are the free speech, they spoke by not buying their music. Do you know how many musicians have much better music than what you hear on the radio? They had the right to make it but free speech never said you have the right to be heard. Have them stand on the corner and play I'm sure someone will walk by and hear,,,, that is as far as the free speech thing goes not a sure bet thing that makes people listen if you make em mad,,,, free speech works two ways.

That is the fans only voice; the power to boycott. The fan has no radio or TV voice to express their displeasure. Only the power of not buying products, of not viewing or of not listening will catch the attention of sponsors and stations.
Although there was no organized boycott of Air America or Al Franken, with few listeners and no support from the public, they went into bankruptcy.

I can see the business meeting now 'Nat' Hey I know let's Diss those that gave us fame along with the president to be cool. True we won't be able to sell out stadiums anymore in the US and be relegated to the Canada circuit and a few sympathy concerts from the left. But you know there's always Japan and India. Don't worry gurls It's Hollywood stick with me and I'll get you a Grammy or 4 they love politics over talent.

That one works both ways. If they want the fans to respect their views and principles, they must also respect the views and pronciples of the fans.
