That's what many viewers thought as they watched the nervous, punch-drunk and extremely stiff Brit stumble her way through her make-or-break performance of 'Gimme More.' This has-been of an artist is the perfect mascot to this has-been of a network.

Britney wasn't anywhere near is bad as the comedian that followed her. Didn't she spit out another poor and sad performance on Paris Hilton just before Paris went to jail? I think that was the same one. Anyway Britney didn't look as good as she once did. I don't think her first live performance should have been lip synced. But then that show was so bad she was still the highlight of the program in my opinion. Well that was as much as I could bear to watch.
I tried to catch the show midway when it was rerun but only lasted two minutes when Jamie Fox and Jennifer Garner did a horrible performance (again another that was far worse than Britney) presenting and award to the Gym Class Heroes.

It was TERRIBLE. She seemed too lazy to move her lips to the words of her own song (since fans have known for years that she's not great at singing with live vocals and that she's an expert at miming), she was dressed like a skank, and there was no energy in her during the whole dance routine. Plus, the opener wasn't anywhere near as good as it could have been.
I've been a fan of Spears for years, and I've seen how energetic and impressive she can be on-stage. But this.. this was just as disappointing as it could get. Fans and peers alike were rooting for Britney, and she blew it.
Also disappointing was the fact that official sources, such as MTV.com and Billboard.com even reported that there would be visual tricks using mirrors to make her disappear/re-appear and that she was also to do a second song off the new album. We saw none of that.
All in all, it was probably the most painful video footage I've seen of Britney, because she failed at something that she used to be so good at.

That was pretty bad. Didn't even look like she was trying. And considering all that bad press this woman has had, you would be inclined to think she'd atleast give it her best shot. She just looked pretty unexcited about the whole ordeal.

Well, looking at YouTube comments, the gossip there is that Britney overheard Sarah Silverman rehearsing her monologue (about insulting Britney's kids) and threatened to pull out of the show. Also that Britney wasn't happy because the hotel and MTV gave her and Angel a lass-minute message to change the performance to not include visual tricks using mirrors due to insurance issues.
Also, that after Sarah's bit was over, she was getting yelled at backstage. Hopefully so, because it's in very bad taste to insulting kids by calling them "mistakes" just to try and benefit your own career.
