Billy was pure soul.

Hard to think of anyone who played along with so many great names and bands....possibly only Clapton himself!

I think I first noticed Billy Preston on a promo video for a Stones single of the late 1960s(?Brown Sugar?) and finally got to see him with one of Ringo Star's "All-Star Bands" about 35 years later. A splendidly versatile keyboardist who slotted in perfectly with whoever he played with, always fun to watch too -- he exuded pure joy.

Billy was a very adept player and extremely knowledgeable about his instrument(classically trained?) and could, as far as I could tell, play with anyone, any place, under any condition or circumstance.

A consummate player and a pure joy to watch and listen to.
