I always like pieces that go behind time with analysis and factual data. For some us who consider a guitar to be one life's fantasies, that's fantastic!

Once, by a stroke of pure luck, I was in a place of business and a man walked in with a case slung across his shoulder. He opened the case to reveal a hand made, one of a kind, original Gibson Custom. I was awestruck when he let me hold it. I loved the cherry sunburst finish. The man worked for Gibson. He was visiting this place of business to buy some equipment that would automate the process. He played an impromptu 15 minute set on a little amp. It sounded so pure.

I own a Les Paul Custom myself, it's black (I always favoured dark colors..). It's really an amazing guitar with a superb tone and an incredible sustaine. If you love to play heavy rock there are few guitars which come close :-)

Les Pauls are a real treat to play - until your shoulder slopes, neck needs a different kind of truss adjustment and fingers go numb from the awful weight of Standards and Customs. I tried a wider strap - but no luck. Today, a hotrodded old Melody Maker saves on chiropractor bills. It's a fun box -3/4 size and totally underrated - but a Les Paul it ain't.
