The Ohio River flood of 1937 took place in late January and February of 1937. With damage stretching from Pittsburgh to Cairo, Illinois, 1 million were left homeless, with 385 dead and property losses reaching $500 million, further worsened by the fact that it occurred during the Great Depression and just a few years after the Dust Bowl...

Hi BB! I was wondering where was situated the shop "Woolworth" we saw in this video( I mean in what town? Although I suspect there were everywhere...). Do you know it BB? What awful flooding! Always very sad to see the cows in the water!

Thanks BB! My dad and his family lived in Rising Sun, Indiana, located on the Ohio river. The flood took out most of the town across the river, called Rabbit Hash, Kentucky; http://www.rabbithashusa.com/tabacco.php

I remember grandma talking about the water nearly to their yard. There are buildings in Aurora, just north of Rising Sun, that still have water marks on the building above the second floor.

Good song, sad times for many families!

Johnny was always a fantastic singer, and never afraid to take on songs that expressed the grief of the common man without being stereotypical country "weepers". This is an excellent choice BB!

The timing of what the people back east must be saying everyday..I don't think that it would be very easy to recover after a flood. Thnx BB !

            BB:

Johnny could sing about grief and still interject a little humor.

"How high is the water papa, Four feet high and rising, Looks like were gonna be blessed by a little more rain"

Thanks for a good song from him.

My heart goes out for all those suffering thru the floods now.
