Every summer we try to see the Doobies, Aerosmith, Huey Lewis and the News, Boston, James Taylor and the bands de jour of the summer... China Grove was a kick off tune to many dates...many THX to Pat, Tom, Guy, Mike, John, Marc, Ed and Skylark (who is a show in his own, on bass).

The opening chord riff of the song is unmistakable. If you never heard the song before, you will always remember it after hearing it for the first time.

Just like the opening feedback to Jimi's "Purple Haze".

MacR, I agree... when I listen, it only takes two weeks to get it outta my head, then comes the medication, or was that before... Purple Haze, anyone???

After spending a day fixing my wireless adapter to get back online again after my other computer died silently in the night, I was quite pleased to listen to China Grove. I even put on the earphones and blasted the volume. You have to listen to this at concert level volume to really get the full flavor. Thanks dade!

Re: What exactly is a "Doobie Brother"?

DOOBIE BROTHERS - a doobie was 60's slang for a marijuana joint.

Was in a band in my early teens and we played this and "South City Midnight Lady" (my all-time favorite Doobie tune) from "The Captain and Me". Real deja vu when I drove through China Grove, Tx. years later.

Must have seen this band 8-10 times over the years. They were always opening for someone I liked or playing at some huge festival. Always preferred the Simmons-Johnston years over the Michael McDonald-led Doobies.

"Skunk" Baxter has to be the all-time rhythm guitarist for his work with the Doobies and Steely Dan.
